Friday Release Day Blogging

If you've been paying attention, you'll know that Chrono Trigger is one of my absolute favourite games. I love the cast of varied and vibrant characters. I love the heady mixture of upbeat optimism and apocalyptic melancholy. I love the colourful and expressive art, the absorbing music, the atmospheric locations and witty dialogue...

And if I have a smile on my face today, it's because with the first ever, much belated European release of this classic gem on the Nintendo DS, I've finally been able to pay my dues to the people who created it.

I like the visual - nice use of color.

I thought perhaps you had a smile on your face because Comet Lulin might be visible tonight (near Zubenelgenubi -- I have to admit, I had to copy and paste the spelling on that one :)

Ooh, thanks, I didn't know that. My practical look-up-at-the-sky astronomy is never less than abysmal.

I tried this out and was pretty disappointed with the port :( I love Chrono Trigger and I think they've made a mess of the new script - it's hammy and overwrought and even though it doesn't seem all that different from the original it's changed in all the wrong ways...

But then maybe that's just nostalgia talking - I might feel the same way about the original script if I were to go back and play it now...

I haven't got that far into the game (just met Robo), and all I've noticed is that, on the plus side, Frog is no longer speaking in that silly faux-Shakespearian way.

And on the down-side Lucca's quip about machines only being evil if humans make them that way has been changed to be specifically about *robots* instead (which seems a bit poor given the whole reason she's interested in science and engineering in the first place).

I'm just wondering what they've done with Flea... >:-)
